The design of a Soft X-ray Laser
A soft X-ray laser (the SXL) is being designed for the MAX IV Laboratory. The laser will be driven by the intense electron beam from the linear accelerator at an energy of 3 GeV. A science case has been developed and funding for a conceptual design study has been funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation together with several Swedish Universities.
The system will be operated as an additional beamline in the Short Pulse Facility (SPF) and produce intense, short, coherent pulses in the range 1- 5nm (0.25-1 keV).
